Know the data boundary
A JSON backup is the restorable copy of your Fastly records. It includes the current session if present, main history, archived sessions, journals, and supported settings.
Use the supported file workflow
Open the backup page and choose Export backup file. Use the system share sheet to save the file to a destination you trust, then verify that it exists and has a recognizable name.
Import replaces the current local dataset rather than merging it. Export first if you want to retain the current copy, and review the file date before confirming Replace local records.
Check the copy you actually have
The suggested filename includes a date and ends in .json. A progress PNG image is a different export and cannot replace this file when restoring the ledger.

Manage each retained copy
Backup text is readable personal data. Choose its destination deliberately and keep the original app data until you know the copy is safely stored.
The importer expects a version-1 Fastly JSON object and rejects files larger than 10 MB. Record validation checks dates, goal values, note length, optional weight, and the distinction between running and completed records.
A worked walkthrough
For a backup walkthrough, first inspect the latest completed record and any current session so you know what the export should include. Open the backup page, select Export backup file, and choose a folder or service where you intend to retain the JSON. Finish the destination's save process, then find the dated file in that location. If you canceled the share sheet or never selected a save action, do not assume a recoverable copy was created. Keep the file's .json extension recognizable and distinguish it from a PNG progress image. You can retain the current app ledger while learning this workflow; there is no need to import merely to prove that a share sheet opened. Before a device change, use a fresh copy and verify the restored records while the original device is still available.
