FIELD GUIDE · GETTING STARTED

Your first session in Fastly

A first session is mainly an exercise in understanding the controls.

Understand the record

A first session is mainly an exercise in understanding the controls. Fastly records a start, a chosen goal, and eventually an end; it does not need an account before those records can exist.

Use the controls deliberately

Open Today and inspect the protocol and goal before starting. Begin only when you intend to record a session, then check that the elapsed display and start time describe what happened.

Fastly keeps one current session, then adds a completed record to History when you stop. The record includes its own protocol and goal, so a later default choice can coexist with earlier settings.

Check a practical example

When you stop, look in the Journal tab for the completed record. Open its actions to find Edit times and Notes, mood & weight, rather than starting another timer to write a note.

Keep the meaning clear

A saved session can be useful even when its duration differs from its goal. Keep the record factual; the timer's completion marker is a comparison with a setting, not an evaluation of your day.

The timer uses a stored start timestamp rather than depending on the screen staying open. Read the date alongside the clock time whenever you correct a session that crosses midnight or a change of local time.

A worked walkthrough

For a first-use walkthrough, imagine you are learning the controls and already know which timer setting you intend to use. Read the selected hours before starting, then note where the start time is displayed. Close and reopen the app once so you can distinguish returning to a running record from beginning another one. When the session actually ends, stop it and find the newest entry in the Journal tab. Open its action sheet and inspect the duration before adding an optional sentence. If this was only an interface test rather than a personal session, label it accordingly and archive or delete it deliberately. That final organizational step keeps a learning exercise from becoming an unexplained chart outlier. None of these checks requires an account or a payment, and the record remains on the device until you choose a file export.

Fastly is a lifestyle timer and journal. These notes explain the app and offer reflection prompts. They are not medical advice or a prescribed eating schedule.
