Understand the record
A custom goal is useful when a named preset does not describe the duration you want to log. Fastly's interface supports goals from one through twenty-four hours.
Use the controls deliberately
Open the protocol controls, choose the custom option, and inspect the displayed hours before saving. Return to the timer to verify both the selected label and its goal.
A goal marker compares elapsed time with the chosen hours. It does not measure food intake, nutritional adequacy, or medical outcomes; none of those can be inferred from a filled progress ring.
Check a practical example
If you choose a custom goal while a session is running, the same session keeps its start and receives the new goal. There is no need to create overlapping records.
| Check | Practical meaning |
|---|---|
| Custom choice | One to twenty-four hours |
| Verification | Read goal back on Today |
Keep the meaning clear
The available range is a software limit, not a recommended range for fasting. A valid number in the picker says nothing about individual medical appropriateness.
For an active record, changing the goal preserves the start, note, mood, and optional weight. The controller also recalculates any enabled goal reminder, subject to permission and quiet-hour settings.
A worked walkthrough
Consider a case where you want to record a duration that does not match a preset name. Select the custom option, check the displayed hours, and return to Today to confirm the result before relying on it. If a session is already running, compare the unchanged start with the newly calculated progress. That confirms you changed an intention rather than recording a new beginning. After stopping, inspect the completed row and keep any note needed to explain a mid-session change. Remember that choosing a number within the picker means the software accepts that goal; it does not establish suitability for an individual. If the custom choice was only a test, restore the intended setting so the next session does not inherit an experimental value. The most useful final check is reading the selected hours back in their actual timer context.
Fastly is a lifestyle timer and journal. These notes explain the app and offer reflection prompts. They are not medical advice or a prescribed eating schedule.
