A LITTLE CLARITY · REMINDERS & ROUTINES

Understand equal quiet-hour times

The controller treats identical From and Until values as no quiet-hour shift. Equal clock times are not implemented as an all-day silence interval.

Decide what cue you want

The controller treats identical From and Until values as no quiet-hour shift. Equal clock times are not implemented as an all-day silence interval.

Check the relevant settings

If you want Fastly reminders paused all day, use All reminders instead of setting equal quiet-hour endpoints. Use distinct endpoints when you intend a specific delayed-alert interval.

Notification delivery also depends on the operating system, permission, battery restrictions, and presentation settings. Fastly's timer reads the device clock; an accurately calculated duration does not guarantee an exactly timed alert.

Understand the timing distinction

This distinction prevents an ambiguous preference from silently meaning twenty-four hours of suppression. Read both values when a quiet-hour configuration is not behaving as you expected.

Keep control of the routine

System focus and notification settings can still silence alerts independently. Verify the app-level rule and the device-level behavior separately.

The controller cancels old goal and start schedules before computing the relevant new ones. Goal changes and start corrections resynchronize reminders from the current session data and current quiet-hour settings.

A worked walkthrough

Suppose you set From and Until to the same local clock value because you want a day without alerts. The controller explicitly treats equal endpoints as no quiet-hour shift, so this choice does not express a twenty-four-hour pause. Use the All reminders switch instead if that is your intention. For a particular blocked interval, choose distinct beginning and ending times and check whether they run within one date or across midnight. This distinction also helps when restoring preferences from an older backup: an equal pair may look like a complete configuration but have no delaying effect. System-level focus settings remain independent and can still silence a notification. Review the app's interval rule and the device's presentation rules separately rather than trying to make one ambiguous time pair represent both purposes at once. If your intention is simply silence, the master reminder switch states that intention much more clearly than equal clock endpoints.
