A LITTLE CLARITY · REMINDERS & ROUTINES

Why changing a goal moves its reminder

An active goal reminder follows the current selected duration.

Decide what cue you want

An active goal reminder follows the current selected duration. Changing protocol or custom hours recalculates the threshold from the same stored start and refreshes the local schedule.

Check the relevant settings

Confirm the revised goal on Today, then check the reminder choice and quiet interval if the expected alert time matters. The original start is retained during the goal change.

Quiet-hour alerts move to the end of the configured interval. That shift does not alter the start timestamp, chosen goal, elapsed time, or the fact that only stopping creates a completed history record.

Understand the timing distinction

A shorter goal may already be reached at the moment you select it. The notification service does not schedule a new alert for an instant that is already in the past.

Keep control of the routine

The absence of a retroactive alert does not mean the goal change failed. Read the selected hours and elapsed comparison in the app to verify the new state.

Notification delivery also depends on the operating system, permission, battery restrictions, and presentation settings. Fastly's timer reads the device clock; an accurately calculated duration does not guarantee an exactly timed alert.

A worked walkthrough

Imagine the start remains fixed while the chosen goal duration is shortened. The calculated goal instant moves earlier, and the progress ring may reach full immediately if elapsed time already exceeds the revised setting. A local notification can only be newly scheduled for a future instant, so there may be no fresh alert for that already-reached threshold. If the revised instant remains in the future, quiet-hour rules and system delivery still apply. To verify the change, read the selected hours and elapsed comparison in Today rather than waiting for a notification as the only confirmation. This avoids confusing a scheduling limit with an unsuccessful goal update. A note can preserve why the intention changed, but it should not be used to imply that a delivered alert or a full ring constitutes an actual session end.

Fastly is a lifestyle timer and journal. These notes explain the app and offer reflection prompts. They are not medical advice or a prescribed eating schedule.
