Understand the selected surface
Widgets are rendered and refreshed under operating-system rules. Fastly updates the native widget data when the fasting state changes and when the app resumes, but it cannot promise every on-screen refresh instant.
Set it up or export deliberately
If a widget seems behind, tap it to open the app. Read Today for the current stored start and elapsed calculation, then return to the Home or Lock Screen.
Progress images exclude the journal. A JSON backup is a separate, readable file containing the ledger and supported settings, so the two exports have different privacy and recovery consequences.
Check what is actually shown
A stale-looking widget does not by itself mean the timer paused or that data vanished. The main timer derives elapsed time from the persisted start rather than from successive widget redraws.
| Check | Practical meaning |
|---|---|
| Widget view | OS-controlled refresh |
| App timer | Current calculation from stored start |
Respect the display and file boundary
Use widgets for convenient glances and the app for the latest detailed state. Do not edit accurate timestamps just to make a delayed widget look different.
Session sharing uses the current session when present, otherwise the latest completed main-history record. The resulting image is static and does not update later when the timer, record, or summary changes.
A worked walkthrough
Suppose you change the active goal in Fastly, return to the Home Screen, and briefly see the earlier widget presentation. The app has a stored state change and sends native widget data, but the operating system still controls rendering and refresh opportunities. Open the app and verify the selected goal there before making any further change. If the app shows the correct goal and original start, repeatedly editing either is unlikely to resolve a delayed surface. Conversely, if Today still shows an unintended record, the issue is not only visual and needs a factual correction. This separation prevents a small display problem from prompting a broad data replacement. Widgets are useful because they reduce access effort, not because they provide a second authoritative ledger. The detailed in-app record remains the first place to check when a compact view seems inconsistent.
Fastly is a lifestyle timer and journal. These notes explain the app and offer reflection prompts. They are not medical advice or a prescribed eating schedule.
